Its been really nice to have a sushi place so close to home in Cary. We have visited this place maybe 3 times since its been open. Its seems to be getting better every time we go. They do an amazing job with presentation using carved vegetable birds as adornments to impressively plated sushi dishes. While we haven’t ventured too far off of the sushi menu yet, they do have a really extensive selection of stir fry and hibachi dishes as well. We will absolutely continue to return to try more and more things from the menu.

The first time we went was not long after they opened and you could definitely feel the newness. I come from from a design and construction project management background and the first thing I noticed was the fact that the place looked like it was still a construction site. I think that first impression would have been better served by waiting a week to open. It looked like the place hadn’t even been “punched” yet. It smelled of construction, and they had opened boxes of merchandise scattered around the dining area.

I believe I ordered some hot tea to start and they proceeded to bring it out in a clear drinking glass. It tasted just fine but it was difficult to hold and drink due to the fact I was drinking a very hot liquid from a very thin glass. We ordered a couple of rolls, some seaweed salad and some edamame. All being delightfully good despite us feeling like we were sitting in a construction site.

We went back a second time for a quick lunch bite. We had noticed in a mail ad that they had a pretty reasonable lunch menu price option. We popped in for a meal and ordered a few rolls and some crab rangoon. For the price the lunch was really great. The lunch rolls are not the signature versions of their sushi rolls but they were still very delicious and did not underwhelm.

The third time we ventured into Tasty Sushi we decided to try and order a variety of menu items as to get a better perspective of their goods. Again they did not disappoint. We started with a proper green tea in a cup instead of a glass, with a tea pot nonetheless. We proceeded to order some fried pot stickers, a bowl of pork ramen, and a lobster sushi roll.

The pot stickers were fantastic; done perfectly, they had a crispy bottom and the rest consisted of chewy goodness. The inside was a sausage mixture, as you would typically expect, that was full of flavor and juicy goodness.

I felt like we were playing musical plates as we passed the food around the table, taking turns eating as each serving spent some time in front of us.  The sushi was also delightful.  I ordered a lobster roll just because I had to try it.  It was one of the pricier items on the menu but it was bountiful and more than enough for us to share.  It was full of texture that included the fried lobster, avocado, cream cheese, vegetables and an amazing pairing of eel sauce and spicy mayo.  This version was also rolled in a pink soy wrapper versus the normal nori roll.  I’m going to have to try and find some of these.

We also ordered a bowl of the pork raman, and while very beautiful didn’t pack the flavor that the other two dishes did.  The broth was decent, likely a combination of dashi stock and some miso.  I really enjoyed the pork and the other tasty accessories but it didn’t have that “punch in the face” flavor I have had from other bowls of ramen in the past.  It was a good bowl of ramen.

Conclusion

If you hasn’t tried this place, do it! They really do a fantastic job for a small sushi restaurant in Cary, IL. Try different things, I realize not everyone enjoys raw fish, but there are certainly plenty of cooked options on the menu. The weight staff are friendly and attentive. By this time they have worked out all of the growing pains and are starting to run like a well oiled machine. I would recommend this place for sure. It has now exceeded my expectations and I hope they continue to do well.
