Lettuce Wraps

So, the last time I ate at a P.F. Chang’s I was sorely disappointed. The food that I remembered from he previous time was a serious letdown. I often have this discussion with friends an family; not specific to Changs necessarily, but certainly over any long since visited restaurant. “Did the restaurant get worse or have my tastes just changed”? I have fallen prey to the lure of remembered food far too many times. I would hate to say, “lets just leave that memory of that deliciousness alone”, and never get to enjoy those meals my mind so clearly remembers. I think its safe to say its both plausible that the restaurant may have had a bad day and that I just don’t like some foods as I experience new and exiting places to eat.

“Its not as good as I remember”

Of course we have all thought or said this at some point. I remember the Lettuce Wraps at P.F. Chang’s being really good, thus, when I stumbled onto this recipe for a meal prep idea, I thought that I should at least try it. I am glad I did.

I couldn’t tell you if these taste like my memory but I will say they are very tasty. I probably just gave them credit by replacing my memory of theirs with this copy cat of not theirs. . . . .Now I’ll have to go back and try them again . . . . *sigh*

Anyway, lets get to the food. Here is the Recipe I followed with notes below on any changes that I made.

The only thing that I really changed in this recipe was the onion. I did not have any yellow onion left in the house but I did have leeks. I used a small leek in lieu of the yellow onion.

I felt like the flavors missed some sweetness so I did add a splash of mirin in pure reactionary indulgence. I often use this when making other Asian dishes and thought it was appropriate for this one.

I used a Wok because it felt right and I really enjoy cooking in one. This recipe is really easy to follow. I would just recommend you do as much prep before hand so you can focus on the cooking.

Conclusion

Try this one for sure; even if you haven’t had P.F. Changs wraps. Lettuce wraps are delicious and this recipe holds up. I provided a bag of romane leaves along side of them rather than in the containers. It helps keep them fresh. I then just assembled them as I ate. I’ll be making this one again.
