Atwood at brunch
I had planned a date night out at a cute little boutique hotel downtown along with dinner reservations and a comedy show. All of which was fantastic and of which we had a surplus of fun, but the next morning we were looking for something to eat before we headed out. The Atwood was located in the first floor of the hotel we stayed at and was a great surprise for both of us.
When we arrived at the hotel we had some extra time so we proceeded to go upstairs to our room, unpack, take some photos of this amazing building, and then head back downstairs for a snack and some drinks.
We ordered the cheese board and a few of their specialty cocktails, all of which were fantastic. We enjoy cheese boards as they typically come with some variety of bread, crackers, sweet condiments and usually some sort of fruits and/or nuts. We where excited to see it arrive so much that by the time I thought about it, it was too take a picture. . . I’ll spare you the half eaten image of a beautiful plate of cheeses and their accessories. Very delicious; it was gone too fast, and not the star of our eating experience as far as I am concerned.
After our evening out we were going back and forth on a few items that late morning, but ultimately landed on their biscuits and gravy and the chicken and waffles. I recently, prior to dining here, had a really bad experience with a place that promised chicken and waffles and delivered me a shoe that looked like a waffle with a frozen, pre-packaged chicken strip on it. It was just plain sad. I was still craving some good chicken and waffles so it was an easy choice for me. Biscuits and gravy, a staple in my house growing up, was her choice for us to share. Its a comfort food for me and no matter how much I have eaten it, I’ll never frown if someone brings me a plate of this stuff.
The food was exceptional. Jennifer and I at one point said it was a better meal then the reservations we had at another place the night before. The waffle was perfectly fluffy with a pile of spicy fried chicken on top. On top of that was a scoop of honey butter and chives. It also came with a side of maple syrup which helped cut the heat a bit. Sweet, spicy, salty goodness. I wish I could have taken some back to that other restaurant and shown them what a good chicken and waffles was supposed to be like. The B&G were no slouch either. The perfectly poached egg and sausage gravy sat atop a couple of flaky, buttery, homemade biscuits. I’ve made homemade biscuits at home before but mine wouldn’t hold their own for 3 seconds against this juggernaut of flavor. Fantastic work Atwood chef. Could we stay another night as to sleep off this brunch? I wish it were so, but alas, we had other things to do.

Conclusion
We never intended to eat at the Atwood but I am certainly happy we did. The brunch was amazing and if we had more time I would have loved to taste the other fare there. I am sure we will be back at some point to try it again. I would highly recommend this place if your in the area and notice it on the corner and thing to yourself “I wonder if that place is any good”. It shouldn’t disappoint.
